Bulgaria 2011 (Part 2)

Second set of photos from our Bulgarian/Romanian ten day trip in April/May 2011

A brief outline of the moves is given here – click on individual photos for full captions

Thursday 5 May

Simply dropped out of Romania across the Danube into Ruse on the 1213 Bucharest – Sofia / Istanbul taking the Istanbul portion forward from Gorna to spend the night in a very wet Veliko Tarnovo.

Friday 6 May

The centrepiece of the trip – did a one day leap on a LCGB Railtour with 87004 – phots herefrom Pleven to Sofia.

Saturday 7 May

Covered the Dimitovgrad – Svilengrad diesel turn, which due to the line between Plovdiv and Dimitovgrad being disrupted by some long term digging, meant travelling via Mihalovo (additional stop on IC 8611 with booked loco 46262) and up the branch from there. Got mega mega jammy as they swapped in sulzer power 06018 for the second part of the diagram.

Sunday 7 May

Planned to cover the booked Sunday hauled turn Plovdiv to Dimitovgrad but this was cart vice due to digging to just went through to Sofia after a nose around Plovdiv shed then headed out to Pirdop to view some BZK 87s – phots here

Monday 8 May

Headed South from Sofia to cover some new track and the only booked class 61 workings. One loco works the Petric branch whilst three others work limited local turns between Dupnica and Kulata/Bobov Dol. We were unable to get to Kulata due to the ongoing Greek issues which means the International trains are not running

Tuesday 9 May

Flew back on EZY8974 (G-EZFW)

Seperate pages for 87004 on LCGB tour and BZK 87s at Pirdop
